Yanmar diesel engines equip the Gehl articulated loaders. These are industry established, efficient and quiet powerhouses which feature Interim Tier IV-certified emission technology. These engines are recognized for their great effectiveness in all applications. Horsepower on the 540 model ranges to 47hp, and to 23hp on the model 140.
Gehl articulated loaders have been manufactured to suit practically every condition. They offer great traction and optimal maneuverability because of a heavy-duty oscillating joint which offers forty five degree rotating angles left and right, together with 10 degrees of oscillating in both directions. Access is granted to confined and tight spaces by narrow machine widths. Most skid-steer loaders with comparable operating capacities are unable to compete. The tires and bucket on the Gehl equipment follow a stable turn radius also. This means the back tires of the loader follow the course of the front tires.
The articulated loaders features hydraulic precision and power that come together with all of the Gehl machinery. Bucket float and lift arm features allow these equipment to perform light scraping and rearward leveling actions. Flat-face couplers, with the two easily accessible auxiliary hydraulic lines power many tools and make changing the accessories an easy job to complete.
The articulated loaders made by Gehl have lift arms that are uniquely designed for great visibility, fast time cycle and to maximize strength. The linkage pattern is specialized to allow for mechanized self-leveling action in up and down directions. It could also easily perform exceptional bucket dump angles at the top and mid ranges of the hoist path along with offering excellent forward reach. Models 340 and 140 have parallel type linkage and the model 540 has "Z" bar kind linkage. These linkage patterns offer great bucket breakout forces from two thousand four hundred thirty three pounds on the model 140 to ten thousand seven hundred forty nine pounds on the model 540.
Gehl articulated loaders are known world-wide for their unsurpassed visibility, ease of operation and supreme ergonomics. The 540 and 340 machines have a total cab enclosure preference obtainable. This offers enhanced safety and comfort for the operator. Secure operation and 360 degree visibility is sustained by placing the one operating it higher than the load to ensure an excellent view of the accessory. An inching pedal allows the operator to alter ground speed while maintaining a fixed engine speed. This particular feature enables the operator to optimally run accessories while ensuring precise engine velocity control. A multi-function joystick controls the differential lock and auxiliary hydraulic functions, bucket, travel direction, float as well as the lift arm.

The year 1992 marked a significant year for Gradall with their launch of XL Series hydraulics, the most dramatic change in the company's excavators since their creation. These top-of-the-line hydraulics systems allowed Gradall excavators to provide high productivity and comparable power on a realistic level to conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These traditional systems effectively handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.
Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to dig and lift materials. With this series, the models were made with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics which showed marked improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators utilize an operator to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system could automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the work at hand. This makes the operator's whole job easier and even saves fuel at the same time.
When the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the vastly competitive industrial machine market which are meant to deal with excavating, demolition, pavement removal and different industrial tasks. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
